Government Notice 1123 of 2012

The Director-General has under section 8 of the Births and Deaths Registration Act, 1992 (Act No. 51 of 1992) and with the concurrence of the Minister of Finance, determined that with effect from 1 February 2013, the fees for the performance of the acts contemplated in section 8 of the Act are payable as set out in the Schedule.
1.
(a)Unabridged computer printed or hand written birth certificate;Free
(b)Abridged computer printed or handwritten death certificate;Free
(c)The re-issuing of an abridged computer printed or handwritten birth or death certificate: Provided that no fee is payable for the issuing of such a certificate on the registration of a birth or death;R20.00
(d)The issuing of an unabridged birth certificate, death or a reproduction of the relevant register or a reproduction of any supporting documentation which is coupled to the register concerned, as well as verification of information from a birth and death register with regard to any individual: Provided that where such reproduction or verification is required for official purposes by a Government institution within the meaning of serial number 11, it will be done free of charge;R75.00
(e)An application for any amendment to the birth register of a person, including the noting of the fact of adoption in the birth register of a person in terms of the Children’s Act, 2005 (Act No. 38 of 2005), but excluding the re-registration of a birth i.r.o section 11 of the Birth and Death Registration Act, 1992, which is free;R70.00
(f)An application for any change of the forenames or surname of a minor as contemplated in sections 24 and 25 of the Births and Deaths Registration Act, 1992 (Act No. 51 of 1992);R70.00
(g)An application for any change of the forename of a major in the birth register as contemplated in section 24 of the Births and Deaths Registration Act, 1992 (Act No. 51 of 1992);R140.00
(h)An application by a major to assume a different surname: Provided that, should the applicant be lawfully married, the fee shall include the application of his or her spouse, as well as those of any minor, or if the applicant is divorced, a widow or a widower, the fee shall also include the application of his or her minor, if any);R325.00
(i)The issuing of a duplicate confirmation of the change of a major's forename or surname;R70.00
(j)No fee is payable for the furnishing of information for official purposes to any State Department, local authority or statutory body as contemplated in section 29(2) of the Births and Deaths Registration Act, 1992 (Act No. 51 of 1992). However, the prescribed fees for abridged and unabridged birth certificates shall be payable if such certificates are requested. 
2.Notice of Fees Payable as published in Government Notice No. 44 of 2011 dated 19 January 2011 is hereby withdrawn.
