Intention to Cancel Identity Documents or Cards of Persons whose Identity Numbers are Blocked, 2024

Government Notice 5135 of 2024

  1. [Repealed on 11 July 2025 by Intention to Cancel Identity Documents or Cards of Persons whose Identity Numbers are Blocked, 2024: Withdrawal (Government Notice R6412 of 2025)]
I, Tommy Livhuwani Makhode, Director-General of the Department of Home Affairs, hereby, in terms of section 3 of the Promotion of Administrative Justice Act, 2000 (Act. No. 3 of 2000), give notice of my intention to, in terms of section 19 of the Identification Act, (Act No. 68 of 1997) (the “Identification Act”), cancel the identity documents or cards of persons whose identity numbers are blocked.
The reasons for my intended decision are that:
(a)the identity documents or cards have been issued to persons whose names are not required in terms of section 5 of the Identification Act to be included in the population register;
(b)the identity documents or cards do not correctly reflect the particulars of the persons to whom they were issued;
(c)the identity documents or cards were fraudulently obtained in that false statements were made and false information was provided at the time of application for, and issuance of, the identity documents or cards; or
(d)the identity documents or cards were forged in that the identity documents or cards lawfully issued to other persons were stolen or unlawfully obtained or altered to either reflect the names or the facial image or photograph of the person whose particulars were not to be included in the population register.
Affected persons are requested to, within 30 days from the publication of this Notice, to provide me with written reasons or representations as to why their identity documents or cards should not be cancelled. Should I not receive the requested written reasons or representations, I shall proceed to cancel the identity document or card accordingly.The written reasons or representations must be submitted to the Department by e-mail to Sylvia.Phasha@dha.gov.zaAny enquiries should be directed to Ms Sylvia Phasha at (012) 402 2225.
