Since LawLibrary.org.za launched, thousands of legal practitioners across South Africa have used it to access legislation and judgments freely and efficiently. From small firms and sole practitioners to in-house legal teams and researchers, we’ve seen the difference that open access to legal information can make in everyday practice.

In 2024 we launched My LawLibrary, adding features and tools to personalise your research experience and make working with legal information faster, simpler, and to help you stay up to date as the law changes.

Today, we’re launching two new premium My LawLibrary subscription plans in addition to our existing free subscription: My LawLibrary Essentials and My LawLibrary Pro.

These subscriptions build on our free foundation, adding powerful, time-saving features designed for practitioners who do deep, daily research.

Just as importantly, this step helps ensure the long-term sustainability of LawLibrary. By offering affordable professional tools alongside our free platform, we’re building a model that can grow, improve, and continue serving South Africa’s legal community for years to come.

Powerful new research features are coming soon

In the last few months we’ve added features to help your work faster and simpler, including:

  • AI-powered document recommendations for documents and saved document folders.
  • Private comments on saved documents for making research notes.
  • Automated case summaries and flynotes for court judgments.
  • Uncommenced legislation provisions, and provisions declared unconstitutional by the courts.

And there’s more on the way, including some exciting AI-powered research tools that many of you have been asking for:

  • Ask questions about a document using AI
  • Ask questions about a folder of saved documents using AI
  • AI-assisted power research
  • Compare legislation between countries
  • Side-by-side comparison of legislation provisions

These tools bring professional-grade research capability within reach, especially for smaller firms and independent practitioners who don’t have access to the expensive systems used by large institutions.

Whether you continue on our free tier or explore one of our subscription options, your support helps us keep building towards a future where every practitioner, no matter their size or budget, can access world-class legal research tools.

Thank you for being part of this journey and for helping us build a sustainable, open future for South African legal research.
