Notary.-Deeds passed before him not properly stamped.-Gross negligence .-Suspension.

Case summary

A notary passed some thirty deeds, fifteen of which were not properly stamped, and issued certificates to the effect that they were properly stamped. It appeared that the notary was guilty of gross negligence, but had no intention of defrauding the Government of revenue: Held, in an application by the Law Society that this being the first case of its kind, the notary should be suspended from practice as such for a period of three months and ordered to pay the costs of the application.
