Asiatic.-Wife.-Mohamedan custom.-Act 15 of 1907,
sec. 2 (e).

Case summary

A woman married according to Mahomedan rites, which
permit of polygamy, is -not a " wife " within the
meaning of sec. 2 (e) of Act 15 of 1907.

(Per WESSELS, J., dissentiente): Such a woman is a wife
within the meaning of the section, and an Asiatic
who is not a prohibited immigrant is entitled to
have one wife with him in the Transvaal.
